Overview

With Autumn being in full swing, the colder temperatures make it harder to practice volleyball drills outside. Because of the colder weather, drills that are usually down outside have to be moved inside and modified. Moving the drills inside can limit some of the drills you can do, but knowing the right drills to do inside is crucial to continue at home training in the cold weather. In today’s blog post we will be looking at 3 volleyball drills that you can do inside and at home that will improve confidence and performance.

Wall passing/setting

This is a simple drill that can be done inside and does not require a lot of space. For this drill all you need is a ball and a wall. To start the drill throw the ball against the wall and when it comes back down either set or bump the ball back up so it hits the wall again. Try to do this for as long as you can while making sure that you have good form. To make the drill harder you can add sticky notes to the wall that you have to hit, to help with aiming while setting or passing. This drill is useful for maintaining or building passing and setting skills in the colder months when you can’t practice these skills outside.

Setting while laying down

This drill helps to build setting skills. This drill can be done anywhere, where you can comfortably lay down on the ground and have enough room to set a ball into the sky. For this drill grab a ball and lay down on the ground with your knees bent at a 90 degree angle. Then set the ball trying to keep it low for 100 times and then focus on driving more power into ball and getting it higher in the air for the next 100 times. This drill helps with ball control while setting the ball and is helpful for all volleyball players.

Line Jumps

This drill helps to build power and have quick feet. For this drill all you need is some tape and a volleyball. Before you begin the drill, put a piece of tape on the floor. Then for 30 seconds jump forward and backwards across the piece of tape or jump side to side over the piece of tape. This drill helps with moving your feet quickly which is important to be able to do during a game.
