Fun Holiday Themed Games to Play with your Family

Overview

The holiday season is just beginning! This season is filled with festive fun, food, friends, and family. In today’s blog post we will be looking at 4 festive games that not only kids but the whole family will enjoy. These are perfect games to play at holiday gatherings or while it’s too cold to play outside.

Snowball Toss Challenge

Equipment needed:

  • Soft socks that are folded to create snowballs
  • Laundry basket
  • Tape

How to play:

  1. Put a line of tape on the floor and place the laundry basket a few feet away from the line
  1. Have kids stand behind the line and then throw the “snowballs” (socks) into the basket
  1. To make the game more fun change the distance or add in ways to get bonus points
  1. The first one to get 10 snowballs into the basket wins

Reindeer Relay Race

Equipment needed:

  • Playing inside:
    • Enough space to move around
  • Playing outside:
    • Cones spread around 10 feet apart

How to play:

  1. In this game kids pretend to be reindeers and run/gallop from one side of the room to the other, if your outside from one cone to another
  1. While they are running to the other wall or cone they have to complete mini tasks, these could include:
    1. 5 jumping jacks
    2. 5 high knees
    3. 3 squats
  1. The first person who completes all the mini tasks and makes it to the other cone or wall wins. If only one person is playing the game you can time yourself and try to beat your other times

Cookie Dash

Equipment needed:

  • Paper circles that are the cookies
  • Enough space to run around

How to play:

  1. Spread the paper cookies throughout the room
  1. Kids then have to move around the room collecting the cookies while moving in holiday themed ways (reindeer gallop, penguin waddle, snowman shuffle)

Build a Snowman Game

Equipment needed:

  • Paper circles or pillows
  • Enough space to run around

How to play:

  1. Place the parts to the snowman (circles, hat, scarf) across the room
  1. To earn each parts kids have to perform an exercise (10 hops, 5 sit-ups, etc.)
  1. After they complete the task they earn the part and they bring it back to where they will assemble the snowman
  1. When they have all the parts they can assemble the snowman
