UNT Winter Skills Softball Camp

DENTON, TEXAS — Softball players from across the area gathered Monday evening at Denton Ryan High School for a high-energy Winter Skills Camp, led by Division I athletes Rylee Nicholson, Elizabeth Moffitt, and Riley McNemar in partnership with Top Tier Lessons.
The 2.5-hour camp was designed to help athletes sharpen both sides of their game, with equal emphasis on hitting and defense. Players rotated through stations focused on swing mechanics, outfield and infield fundamentals, catching technique, and defensive decision-making, before finishing the session with a short scrimmage that allowed athletes to apply new skills in a fun, competitive environment.
University of North Texas catcher Elizabeth Moffitt highlighted the intentionality and engagement shown by the group throughout the workout. “The girls were very intentional with the drills we provided, making adjustments quickly,”Moffitt said. “They asked questions to understand the intent behind the drills. It was a great, intimate workout and I’m grateful we could give back to the softball community.”
Outfielder Rylee Nicholson emphasized the importance of practicing with purpose while introducing college-level skills athletes can use daily. “We had so much fun with these girls and teaching them college-level skills that they can use on a daily basis,” Nicholson shared. “We hope the girls took away the importance of quality over quantity, the intent and focus needed in every practice, and the goal of getting 1% better every day.”
Riley McNemar, who brings SEC experience from Auburn along with her time at North Texas, praised the work ethic of the athletes despite challenging conditions. “I’m proud of the girls for coming out in the cold to work and get better,”McNemar said. “Those girls are the ones that strive to be better than average, and it will take them far in their softball careers.”
Families described the camp as a valuable opportunity for players to receive hands-on instruction from athletes currently competing at the Division I level, while gaining insight into the mindset, preparation, and consistency required to succeed. The Winter Skills Camp is part of Top Tier Lessons’ growing series of athlete-led clinics, providing young athletes access to elite coaching while creating meaningful NIL opportunities for college players.
