Winter Skills DC Elite

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Softball athletes from across the region gathered Friday evening at the Nationals Youth Academy for a high-level Winter Skills Clinic, led by Division I student-athletes Delaney Mosley (University of Illinois) and Yasmin Burrell (Coppin State University) in partnership with DC ELITE NIKE RBI.

Designed for athletes ages 13–17, the three-hour clinic offered structured, college-level instruction focused on fundamental development, technical precision, and position-specific growth. Participants had the option to attend individual sessions or complete the full training curriculum, gaining exposure to multiple aspects of the game in a focused indoor setting.
The evening began with defensive instruction, where athletes worked through fielding fundamentals including footwork, glove presentation, angles to the ball, and throwing mechanics. Mosley emphasized defensive efficiency and consistency, helping players understand how small adjustments translate to reliable execution in game situations. Mosley wanted to share “Camp #2 was very successful, it was cool to see the returning players growth between this camp and the last. There’s something so special about giving back to the younger generation of softball players, and I’m so grateful for Journey and the entire Top Tier Lessons company for giving me the ability to make this happen!”

The second session shifted to hitting development, with drills centered on swing mechanics, timing, bat path, and approach. Athletes learned how collegiate hitters train for quality contact and power production, applying those concepts through structured reps and individualized feedback.

The final hour focused on catching instruction, covering receiving, blocking, transfers, footwork, and throwing mechanics, along with leadership and communication responsibilities behind the plate. Burrell, an incoming freshman at Coppin State known for her defensive versatility and leadership, worked closely with athletes to reinforce confidence and accountability at one of the game’s most demanding positions.
Burrell found the experience incredibly rewarding stating “I loved being able to have to opportunity to spread my knowledge to so many different young girls! It felt amazing to give back to the next generation and to see how softball brings people together.”
Mosley, an outfielder for the University of Illinois and former Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for Washington, D.C., brought high-level experience and technical insight to each session. Her collegiate success and local roots made the clinic especially meaningful for athletes training in the area.
Families described the clinic as a valuable opportunity for players to receive direct instruction from active Division I athletes while gaining a clearer understanding of the preparation, mindset, and work ethic required to compete at the next level. The Winter Skills Clinic is part of a growing series of athlete-led training opportunities hosted through Top Tier Lessons, expanding access to elite coaching while creating meaningful NIL opportunities for college players.
