GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Field hockey athletes gathered at MSA Sports Spot on December 22 for the Winter Field Hockey Camp led by Amelia Albers, a member of Northwestern University’s 2024 and 2025 NCAA National Championship teams.
Designed as a one-day winter training experience, the camp welcomed players across two age groups for high-energy, skill-focused instruction tailored to both developing and advanced athletes. The evening opened with a Grades 3–6 session, where players worked through foundational stick skills, movement patterns, and confidence-building drills before closing with extended scrimmage play. The high school session followed with a more advanced training block emphasizing speed, decision-making, and game IQ, culminating in competitive scrimmaging designed to apply skills under pressure.

Albers led each session with an engaging, hands-on coaching style, blending technical instruction with a championship mindset. Drawing from her experience competing at the highest level of collegiate field hockey, she emphasized fundamentals, work ethic, and smart play, helping athletes understand how small details translate to success in game situations. Throughout the camp, players rotated through skill stations, teamwork-based drills, and competitive gameplay, ensuring every athlete stayed active and challenged.

Amelia would love to thank all of the parents and athletes for spending the evening with her. “I was so happy to run a field hockey camp in Grand Rapids this December!” Amelia said. “It’s great to see that there’s still an interest in West Michigan. I love coaching in my hometown. Thanks so much to everyone who came out!”

In addition to on-field training, athletes and families had the opportunity to learn more about Albers’ journey to Northwestern, her experience as a National Champion, and the balance of academics, athletics, and leadership at the Division I level. A Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient and multiple-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Albers highlighted the importance of character, preparation, and consistency both on and off the field.
Families praised the camp for its positive atmosphere and the opportunity for young athletes to train directly with a National Champion in a setting that was both competitive and approachable. The Winter Field Hockey Camp with Amelia Albers is part of a growing series of athlete-led training experiences that connect youth players with elite collegiate athletes while creating meaningful NIL opportunities.
