Swim Clinic with Vivian Anderson

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — Competitive swimmers from across the area gathered at the NRH Centre for a high-level Swim Technique Clinic led by Vivian Anderson, a Division I swimmer at the University of North Texas, for an afternoon focused on precision, efficiency, and race-day details that make the difference at the next level.
Designed for athletes ages 13 and up, the two-hour clinic delivered college-level technical instruction in a focused, fast-paced environment. Anderson brought her experience as a sprint freestyle and backstroke standout to the pool deck, guiding swimmers through skills that directly translate to faster, more efficient racing.

Technique-Driven Training

The clinic was split into two purposeful segments, each targeting areas that often separate good swimmers from great ones:
  • Turns & Transitions: The first half of the session emphasized turns — one of the most critical places to gain (or lose) time in a race. Swimmers worked on approach speed, body positioning, tight rotations, and powerful push-offs, with Anderson providing real-time feedback and corrections.
  • Underwater Efficiency: The second half focused on underwater stroke technique, reinforcing the importance of efficiency off the wall. Athletes drilled streamlined body positions, dolphin kick mechanics, and timing to maximize distance and speed before surfacing.
Throughout the session, Anderson emphasized intentional movement and technical consistency, helping swimmers understand why each detail matters at higher levels of competition.

Learning From a Division I Athlete

In addition to in-water instruction, swimmers participated in a bonus Q&A session with Anderson, where she shared insights into:
  • Training habits and expectations at the Division I level
  • Navigating the recruiting process
  • How to make the most of the developmental stage athletes are currently in
The conversation gave swimmers and families a firsthand look at the mindset, preparation, and discipline required to compete in college swimming.

Coaching With Experience and Purpose

I love working with young athletes to help them reach their full God-given potential!” Anderson says.
Drawing from her background as a TAPPS Division II Champion and her years of coaching experience alongside her mother, Anderson led the clinic with a balance of technical clarity and approachability. Her ability to connect with athletes while holding them to high standards created an environment that was both challenging and encouraging.
By the end of the session, swimmers left with sharper technical awareness, practical drills they could take back to their home programs, and a renewed confidence in their ability to improve through detail-oriented training.
Clinics like this continue to reflect a growing emphasis on building complete swimmers — athletes who are not only powerful and efficient in the water, but also mentally prepared for the demands of the next level.
