Free Swim Clinic with the University of Illinois Swim Team

CHAMPAIGN, IL — The ARC Pool was buzzing with energy Saturday morning as more than 100 swimmers, families, and fans packed the stands for an unforgettable Illini Swimming experience that blended live Big Ten competition with hands-on coaching from the entire Illinois Swimming Team.
Following the Illini’s dual meet against Iowa and Nebraska, the Illinois program hosted a free youth swimming clinic designed to bring young swimmers closer to the sport by combining high-level competition with direct instruction from Division I athletes all in one action-packed morning.

A Meet-Day Experience, Start to Finish
Participants began the day in the stands, cheering on the Illini alongside teammates, families, and fans. Spirit stations allowed young swimmers to create signs in support of Illinois, while the crowd erupted for every Illini win. Prizes were awarded throughout the meet, adding to the excitement and helping transform the dual into a true community celebration.
With attendance swelling to well over 100 people, the atmosphere mirrored that of a championship meet giving young athletes a firsthand look at the intensity, energy, and pride that define Illinois swimming.
Entire Illini Team on Deck
Immediately following the meet, swimmers moved from the stands to the pool deck for the clinic portion of the event, where the entire Illinois Swimming Team took part in coaching. Athletes worked directly with participants, breaking into small groups by age to ensure personalized instruction and meaningful interaction at every level.
The clinic emphasized technical fundamentals while maintaining a fun, fast-paced environment through relay races, team challenges, and interactive games. The full-team presence allowed young swimmers to rotate between coaches, receive individualized feedback, and experience the collaborative culture that drives the Illini program.

Giving Back to the Community

For Illinois Swim and Dive alum Cara, CEO and Founder of Top Tier Lessons, the day represented the full-circle impact of collegiate athletics and community connection.
“It was incredible to see the Illini swimmers give back to the community as well as see everyone cheering on my former team in the stands,” Cara said. “I am a proud Illinois alum, and am so grateful for the relationships and memories it has given me.”
That sense of pride and connection was evident throughout the event — from autograph signing stations and limited-edition signed Illinois Swim & Dive posters to a raffle for a free private lesson with an Illinois swimmer.
An Inspiring Day for Young Swimmers
By pairing live Division I competition with on-deck instruction from the entire team, the Illini Swimming Clinic offered young athletes ages 6–15 a rare opportunity to experience college swimming from the inside.
The result was a morning filled with learning, inspiration, and unforgettable moments. This event showcased not only elite athletic performance, but the Illini Swimming Team’s commitment to giving back and building the next generation of swimmers.
