Indoor Tennis Drills to Help Improve Agility

Overview
The weather is getting colder and that is causing athletes to move their outdoor training inside their house or to a local gym. During the winter athletes still want to get better at their sport but it may be hard to finds drills that can be done inside with limited spaces. In today’s blog post we will be looking at agility drills that can do at home to improve your tennis performance. These drills help to improve coordination, power, and being able to move quickly to get to a ball.
Ladder Drill
Equipment:
- Agility ladder
- Space
Steps:
- Spread the agility ladder down on the ground in an area that has enough space for someone to move around. If you don’t have an agility ladder you can place ribbon or tape in squares on the ground at equal distances.
- Step in and out of the squares as quickly as possible without touching the tape/ribbon or getting your feet caught in the ladder.
Ball Drop Drill
Equipment:
- Tennis ball
- Friend or family member (optional)
Steps:
- If you have a family member or friend with you have them drop a ball somewhere random and grab the ball before it bounces for the 2nd time
- If you are by yourself bounce a tennis ball against a wall and grab the ball after it bounces off the wall
High Jumps
Equipment:
- Sturdy box that can hold your body weight
Steps:
- For this drill you can either do it with a box or without a box
- If you have a box then jump up onto the box as many times as you can jump on the box
- If you don’t have a box trying jumping as high as you can or use another sturdy surface that can hold your body weight
